Dear Paul
The Meeting with Mike Bradley has been cancelled as the GFTU could not provide the support that the Union of Petrol Station Workers needs with regards to b, c, d, and e in my list below.
Yours sincerely

Dear Mr Bradley
1. The time of 1.00 pm is fine by me. I have made a tentative list of items for discussion on where GFTU can assist me. These are:
(a) provide me with a copy of a Union Rule Book that I can use as a template with approrpiate modification to suit the particular nature of the workers in this industry, and assistance in finalising this document such that it would ensure Certification and Listing by the Certification Officer. I do not have a proper Rule Book at present and do not know the items it is supposed to cover;
(b) for the GFTU to write to the petrol retailing companies in the United Kingdom to enable the sales assistants, forecourt attendants and office managers to consider joining the Union of Petrol Station Workers;
(c) for the GFTU to assign a member of staff to design and produce posters and leaflets for membership recruitment for display in all the petrol stations of the country and putting this into effect by posting the poster and leaflets;
(d) for the GFTU to examine the attached Membership Recruitment Application Form and modifying it suitably to ensure that it is legally sound; and
(e) GFTU to provide financial assistance to cover the Application Fee and associated costs for Certification and Listing
2. If you have any other issues or wish to comment on the above before the Meeting please let me know.
Yours sincerely
Shantanu Panigrahi

Dear Mr Bradley
You offered an appointment on either the 16th or the 19 January to discuss the Union of Petrol Station Workers and all the problems I encountered as a sales assistant in Shell Wigmore Petrol Station. I am still keen to establish the means of making progress in this and would like to come this Friday (16th January) to your office to meet with you.
Hopefully this will be the first step in making progress towards recruitment of members from all the petrol stations of the United Kingdom. Any ideas you have towards this would be most helpful.
Could you confirm the time of the meeting and the full address of your office with easy to follow directions of how to get there?
Yours sincerely

The GFTU is a Federation of Trade Unions. Full details at www.gftu.org.uk. We mainly provide education and research facilities to our affiliates. It is unlikely , as we only have 8 employees , that we would be able to orgainise workers in each petrol station. If you would like to meet I could do anytime on 16 or 19 January 2009 , mb.

1. Thankyou for your quick reply offering an appointment with you to discuss the matter. This is acceptable to me but we need to ascertain certain facts before the meeting, with your permission. This is because in January I had discussed the matter with the Trades Union Congress for similar help and to recognise the Union of Petrol Station Workers (UPSW) by allowing affiliation before Certification and Listing but the TUC did not reply. I could not obtain government's Union Modernisation Funds without the affiliation to the TUC. I should also inform you that I have also written to the TGWU(UnitetheUnion) again yesterday for help but it has not replied.
2. The UPSW has thus far operated as a uncertified (unlisted) trades union but in full consultation with the Certification Office. The immediate priority is to get it certified and listed. We only have two members thus far which is sufficient for application to be made, as far as I am aware. I would however have liked to increase this number to 25 members before the formal application for listing and certification is made.
3. In light of this background how can the General Federation of Trades Union help in increasing the membership of the Union of Petrol Station Workers to make it a viable trades union organisation? I have no finances at present for membership recruitment purposes but have membership recruitment Application Form ready for the attention of potential members in the petrol stations. What is urgently needed is to have this Application Form distributed into each and every petrol station of the United Kingdom for the attention of sales assistants, forecourt attendants and office managers, so that each worker can decide whether to join the union or not. A poster for membership recruitment purposes should also be displayed at each petrol station. Could you facilitate this?
4. I should also be grateful if you would clarify whether the UPSW can become part ot the General Federation of Trades Union now, that is without certification and listing.
Yours sincerely
Dr Shantanu Panigrahi
